Nepal's House of Representatives Establishes 10 Thematic Committees

Nepal's House of Representatives (HoR) has successfully constituted its ten thematic committees, with the allocation of lawmakers to each committee now finalized. This development was confirmed by Speaker Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal. The formation of these committees is a crucial step in the legislative process, enabling the HoR to effectively address various sectors and issues through specialized deliberation and oversight.

The Speaker's office had previously initiated the process by requesting political parties to submit the names of their respective lawmakers for committee assignments. Following this, the HoR Secretariat published the names of lawmakers assigned to each committee. The selection process involved lawmakers themselves expressing their preferences for specific committees, with the Speaker making the final assignments based on these preferences and the need for balanced representation.

Among the newly formed committees are the Finance Committee, International Relations and Tourism Committee, Industry, Commerce, Labor and Consumer Welfare Committee, Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee, State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, Agriculture, Cooperative and Natural Resources Committee, Women and Social Affairs Committee, Education, Health and Information Technology Committee, Development, Infrastructure and Physical Development Committee, and the Public Accounts Committee. Each committee is designed to scrutinize and legislate on matters pertinent to its designated sector, ensuring comprehensive governmental oversight and policy formulation.

The formation of these committees is a standard parliamentary procedure essential for the functioning of a legislative body.
