Nepal Government Accelerates Driving License Printing to Clear Backlog

The Nepalese government has significantly increased the pace of driving license printing, with the stated goal of eliminating a substantial backlog within the next year. This initiative comes as part of an ongoing effort to address the long-standing issue of delayed license issuance, which has affected numerous citizens.

According to Devaraj Dhungana, the Director General of the Department of Transport Management (DoTM), the department is now printing approximately 40,000 smart driving licenses daily. This marks a significant increase from previous printing rates, reflecting a concerted push to process pending applications. The accelerated printing is expected to alleviate the frustrations of applicants who have been waiting for their licenses for extended periods.

The DoTM's strategy involves utilizing enhanced printing capacities and streamlining the distribution process. This move is anticipated to improve public services related to transportation and reduce the administrative burden associated with license issuance.
